The Fortune Teller
Shifa Dias( 2016-18 batch)
She is beautiful - naturally! All that she wore was a beaming smile, a smile that was contagious. And a pair of dove eyes that sparkled as though quenching for "HOPE"- that's all she had! She was great at whatever she did, because that was all she did!
Bharti, a seemingly lanky dusky skin toned teenage girl - struggling to make her way through a narrow lane wrapped in chaparral as she flaunted her multi-coloured ghagra and a red polka, which revealed her belly - button and perfectly curved back, she was in truth - "Beauty personified".
Balancing two pots on her head and another on her waist, she still had one hand waving effortlessly parallel to her left leg - what to us seemed to be a task!!! was just another routine for Bharti. As she got closer to the lake the cool breeze swept off her sun kissed face, and at once all her worries seemed to have faded away.
After all , there's a difference in walking up to the purifiers in our well-equipped kitchen (sometimes even that feels like a task to us ) and walking several miles daily to make sure , her family was hydrated enough to sweat and earn a living.
After the pots were filled and as she was about to leave, she  caught the sight of an old man under a banyan tree , talking to a parrot. That amazed her. As she approached him - she was fascinated to discover that the bird actually foretold the Future. But what he foretold about Bharti , was a mere "myth". Everyone present there knew that she would never have a future that he predicted - Happy, Independent and Dignified - but at the moment Bharti felt immense Joy and a sense of Motivation. She turned around to set back on her journey . And so did the parrot. They moved onto different directions - but their destination was one - "the cage".
